Default Thanks! Regarding Pierced Ears

I just wanted to write a quick Thanks to all who responded to my dilemma
about my 3 yo DD wanting pierced ears. You all got me back on track ;~)

I think I let her new ability to express her opinions and desires get the
best of me! What fun it is to see her want something "just like Mommy"!
But pierced ears aren't the same as painted toenails.

I am going to look for some of those sticker earrings. I think she'll think
they are great fun, and perhaps the novel idea of earrings will even wear
off until she's a bit older (quite a bit, hopefully)!

Thanks again!

Default Thanks! Regarding Pierced Ears

Lynn,

I think you made the right choice. I have been on both sides in the past.
Initially when I had Alexis, I didn't see what the big deal was. They were
cute so we got them. Alexis was 3 months old. She SCREAMED!!! It was torture
for both of us! We almost left the place with only one ear pierced. My
husband talked me into letting him stay with her for the second ear. I hated
myself for putting her through it. But I have to admit, she was fine 5 minutes
later. That was the worst, we had no infection and she didn't bother them at
least until she was about 2 years old. At that point we were going through a
pair a month ... she would pull them out. Finally I quit putting them in
because it was getting expensive. We also used the screw on kind which didn't
work out for fear she would actually rip them out of her ear she would pull so
hard. She grew out this by three years old. But she really doesn't care one
way or the other now at 4. Sometimes she wears them and sometimes she doesn't.
As a consequence of all that we went through with Alexis I refused to pierce
Emma and Aislyn's ears.
