Default Should I do this-from a legal standpoint?

I was recently visited by my best friend in high school, a woman
(obviously).

She's married now, but her husband is not producing sperm. They are
not sure why, but they are wanting to do an invasive surgery, and
while he is OK with having a child, he does not want to go through
with this especially because he comes from a family where the men tend
to die from heart attacks before 60. So he told her they should look
into artificial insemination.

She wants me to be the dad. In fact, her husband called me, while she
was visiting, and said if she thinks I'm the right one he wants me to
be the father. He said they would pay for artificial insemination
services or as far as he is concerned it's okay if we just have
relations. It would save a lot of money and as far as he is concerned
as long as it's just to make a child he doesn't mind-as long as that's
where it stops.

My questions, one, does it make any difference legally how the actual
insemination takes place, and two, am I setting myself up for eighteen
years of child support if the deal goes bad?

I'm single and don't want kids myself-I can't deal with the
responsibility not because of genetics but because II had a traumatic
upbringing and decided to be childfree personally. Is there a resource
for these kind of questions on the net?
