Union asks governor to fire DCF chief Jerry Regier

Jerry Regier

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - The union that represents state employees is
calling for the removal of Jerry Regier as the head of Florida’s
social services agency.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees sent
a letter to Governor Jeb Bush asking him to fire Regier. Regier has
come under fire after an investigation showed questionable
relationships with vendors doing business with his agency.

The report found that Regier and other DCF officials attended a
birthday party for Regier that was hosted by a personal friend of the
secretary. The friend was director of the Florida State University
Institute for Health and Human Services Research. The institute at the
time had nearly 2 million dollars in contract work from DCF.

On another occasion Regier and his wife stayed overnight at the
director’s Longboat Key beach home.

Union officials say front line DCF employees are fired for a lot less
and that Regier deserves to be fired at well.
