There is only one problem with this story, Sherman. It shoots in the
ass so many of the claims and assumptions and innuendoes of various
anti CPS posters here.

Just the issue of federal audit "failures" for one.

The article, top to bottom, is a litany of all the things about
seeking kin and placing with them that CPS has NO control over. Even
federal law, now it turns out, has created a major obsticle in the
past.

Now that is changing, but for the purpose of the audits, of course it
told CPS not to waste worker time even looking for relatives,
especially if they were NOT directly related to the child by blood.

Yes, so many of the latest and greatest initiatives, laws, amendments,
rules... have indeed complicated children's placement with kin. The
statistics are only that of those kin which appear in the latest census
report - not of actual and real numbers - just spitting out what their loose
tallies appear to imply. See:

actual results and the AARP Grandparent's site at

"6.3% of US children under 18 (4.5 million) live in grandparent-headed
households (Census 2000)."

Yes too, some life forms tend to exercise their senility in futile attempts
at justifying their existence. It huli-huli all time pilikia anyways, brah.

For the kapuna out there, this article demonstrates that there are two
little ones who did not go through "the system" and the kin did not have to
do battle for the pleasure of rescuing the little ones. Note that the
grandfather is disabled. What would CPS, in their wisdom and within the
construct of current laws do about the "fitness" of this couple to become,
as the law now demands, foster parents? And, should they be determined to
be "fit", would some of these anti-folks attack them with nonfounded
nonsense accusations? The law now requires the kin to adopt the children
also. No more guardianship under the ASFA and amendments. That is, in the
event that the children become taken into the custody of the State.

Note, da tutu helps with the problems that exist and is working towards
helping others. Note further that some life forms who can only spew
nonsense DO nothing at all, except that.
"In her spare time, she leads two kinship-care support groups and
volunteered on the state's Kinship Care Workgroup." Ahem, NOT as a paid
person as some lolo hapu'u's here purport as the real kumu's hele on.

In the instance of this particular 'ohana, cps was NOT involved. They did
NOT intervene. At all. Their court issues were private and the children
were not taken into custody by CPS. Another darned if they did and darned
if they didn't situation. I can state this as I am aware of the actual
legal circumstances of the keiki custody cases.
